Ronald M. Lesley (Ron) Obituary
La Grande, Oregon - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ron, who departed this life peacefully at home, surrounded by his beloved family, on July 25, 2026. Born on April 2, 1945, in Portland, Oregon, Ron was the eldest son of the late George Delos Lesley and Charlotte Neva Strickler, who predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Michelle; his daughter, Dawn, and her husband Troy Price; his brother Steve; sister-in-law, Lynda; niece Sarah; nephew, Aaron; and numerous cousins and other relatives.
A graduate of Springfield High School, Ronald went on to serve his country with distinction in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1968. As a Sergeant, he was stationed in Vietnam, attached to the 173rd Airborne, where he was honored with the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service.
Following his military service, Ronald embarked on a 37 year career as a Railroad Conductor with Union Pacific, Southern Pacific and Amtrak.
Ronald was a proud member of La Grande Masonic Lodge #41, Al Kader Shriners Legion of Honor and Baker Valley Scottish Rite. His dedication to these organizations reflected his deep-seated values and his desire to contribute positively to the community around him.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Ron found solace in the great outdoors, where he could connect with nature. His love for the wilderness was surpassed only by his love for his family and friends, whom he always made feel welcome and valued.
Perhaps one of Ron's most profound achievements was his dedication to recovery, having celebrated 28 years of continuous sobriety. His journey inspired countless others, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Ron's legacy of kindness, strength and love will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
In memory of Ronald, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to Shriners Children Portland, an organization close to his heart. Shriners Children's Portland Office of Philanthropy,
