Boise, Idaho - Robert Allen Motley, age 81, of Halfway, Oregon, passed away on April 24 in Boise, Idaho at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center surrounded by family. A private family interment was held, Bob was buried next to his mother Reta. There will be a celebration of life for Bob at the Pine Valley Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall in Halfway, Oregon on May 25 at 1:00 p.m. Food will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your favorite potluck dish if you so inclined but not required.

Bob came into this world June 15 1943, joining his sister Lynne to parents Cecil Motley and Reta (Del Curto) Motley in Tacoma, Washington. After the war ended, the family returned to Halfway, Oregon. In Bob's youth and for the rest of his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding or any other outdoor activity including helping his uncles, Jerry and Lawrence Del Curto, and others with various ranch work.

In high school, Bob was on the basketball team and 4-H Riding Club performing at the Hells Canyon Junior Rodeo and Baker County Fair. He graduated from Pine Valley High School in 1961 then worked at the Halfway sawmill and attended Eastern Oregon University to study biology. On January 15, 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and studied to become an electronic technician at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He served in Vietnam from April 1966 to June 1967 performing high security communications. He earned the rank of E-5 (P) with an honorable discharge. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign medal w/ Device and Expert Rifleman.

After his military service, Bob returned to EOU, earning his teaching certificate and later his teaching masters. He taught school at John Day, Oregon until returning to Halfway in the early 1980s to teach math and science and coach various sports until retiring in 1999. He also worked for 25 years as a seasonal employee for the United States Forest Service. He taught Hunter's Education for many years, was a member of the Panhandle Snowmobile Club operating the groomer for many years and served on the Pine Valley Cemetery Board.

Bob was a man of great integrity who cared a lot about his community in Halfway, Oregon. He was known for his generosity and willingness to always help those in need. He was never married, but he had many lifetime friends and family members that will miss him greatly.

Bob is survived by his sister, Lynne (Allen) Joseph; nieces and nephew, Deborah (Greg) Hammond, Teresa Joseph, and Brent (Nancy) Joseph; numerous great-nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and great-nephew, Kevin Raffety.
