Ephrata, WA - Naomi Irene (Powell) Chadwell, formerly of Baker City, passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of 97. Naomi was born in Baker, Oregon, on September 20, 1928, to Fred and Eathel Powell, and grew up in Baker City, where she attended local schools and graduated from Baker High School. She later completed a two-year business college program.

Naomi married Wallace "Dick" Chadwell, also of Baker City. Both the Powell and Chadwell families have deep, long-standing roots in the Baker Valley, having arrived in the region as early Oregon Trail settlers.

In the early years of their marriage, Naomi and Dick lived at the East Eagle Creek mining camp operated by Dick's parents, Roy and Beulah Chadwell. The camp was a small, close-knit community of a few cabins, a cookhouse, and an assay office. Naomi and Dick made their home in a modest log cabin there while Dick worked at the family mine. Their first child, Mark, was born during that time.

In 1951, they moved to Moses Lake, Washington, where they raised their six children and operated Moses Lake Welding and Supply. Naomi later worked for Grant County in Ephrata until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; and her sister, Elaine Powell Lynch. Naomi is survived by her six children—Mark (Laurie) Chadwell, Joyce (Gordon) Knopp, Kenton Chadwell, Susan (Jeff) Heagy, Nancy (Mark) Butcher, and Janet (Mark) Millard—along with 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Naomi is fondly remembered by her extended Baker City family and the community where both the Powell and Chadwell families planted their early Oregon roots.
