Larry Riggs Obituary
Pendleton, OR - Larry H. Riggs, age 81, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
Larry was born in Roseburg, Oregon, to W. Harold and Venetta Riggs. His first 12 years were spent on the family farm in Sutherlin, Oregon. At age 12, the family moved to Prineville. A year later, they moved to Milton-Freewater, Oregon, where his parents remained after retirement.
Larry was quite musical. In high school, the beloved choir director, Jack Williams, formed a band consisting of Larry, Lee Bogle, Gary Kilburg, Ray Brumbach, and Rich Gillette called the Folk Williams Four Plus One. They performed at various events throughout the Pacific Northwest and even recorded an album, which his niece now plays for her daughters. Larry continued to sing for several years in the M-F Choral Society and for one season in the Walla Walla Choral Society. In addition, he served many years as the choir director for Christ the King Lutheran Church in M-F.
Larry had a mischievous streak in his younger years, a wonderful sense of humor, and was deeply loved by everyone who knew him.
During high school and several years after that, Larry ran the projector at the Roxy Theatre in Milton-Freewater and later at the M-F Drive-In. In addition to music, his passion was the body shop business. He was very proud to open his own shop, Milton-Freewater Body Shop. Later, he moved to Pendleton, Oregon, and purchased Pendleton Body Shop from a mentor and friend. He was a true artist in repairing and painting cars, and he painted many show cars. Shortly after moving to Pendleton, he met his partner of the last 20 years, Alicia Bates. Her family quickly became his family. He loved her daughters and grandchildren as his own. The family is especially grateful for grandson Logan, who cared for Larry daily during his recent illness.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his partner, Alicia; his daughter, Tina Riggs-Fredricksen (Kevin); his brother, Wayne (Jolene); his sister, Kathy Harvey (Mike); bonus daughters Mandie and Chelsey; bonus grandchildren Logan, Talan, Trent, Alicia, and Jordan; and nieces Tami Mooney, Nichole Riggs Bigley, and Ashley Mahan.
As Larry requested, there will be no service. His ashes will be spread in the Blue Mountains at a place he loved to visit.
