Hermiston, Oregon - Jim spent his early years on the family ranch at Nye Junction before moving to Pilot Rock, Oregon. He graduated from Pilot Rock High school in 1950, attended Oregon State University, and was a lifelong supporter of OSU Beavers. As he should, he took immense pleasure in teasing University of Oregon Duck supporters
"Big Jim" was an avid golfer, hunter and was a lifelong member of The Elks Club and the NRA.
In 1966, he married Hazel Sutton and became a dad to her daughter Linda. They later divorced. Jim fiercely loved his family and friends.
After his retirement, he would spend winters in Yuma and Phoenix, Arizona spending time with his daughter and grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Vera Stanton and brother Kenny Stanton.
He leaves behind his daughter, Linda Van Nattan; granddaughters, Heather (Elkin) Chamorro, Mickell Ferris, great-granddaughter, Deziree (Jonathan) Columbo, great-great grandson, Jack Columbo. All of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Keith (Karen) Stanton; niece, Suzette Stanton of Pilot Rock; nephew, Scott Stanton of Hermiston, Oregon; Shannon (Mark) Contreras of Stanfield, Oregon; and niece, Toni Jones of Wallowa, Oregon.
