Dorothy Ann Bradley was born on October 29, 1935, in Tribune, Kansas, youngest (baby sister) of seven children born to Asa Francis and Anna Pearl (Hansen) Bradley. Around 2 years of age, the family relocated to the Northwest—Nampa, then La Grande. Dorothy attended Greenwood Elementary and graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1954. She married in 1955, and they lived in the Twin Falls, Idaho, area, settling in Buhl to raise their three children. After the couple divorced, Dorothy returned to La Grande. Dorothy worked for Albertsons, then Safeway, in the receiving and inventory control department. She enjoyed working in grocery retail, interacting with customers and fellow coworkers, where she made lifelong friends, retiring in 1999.
In Dorothy's youthful days, she enjoyed camping, fishing, water skiing, riding horses, playing softball, and working the small family farm. She cherished most the laughter of loved ones and friends gathered around her, creating magic in the kitchen, brainstorming projects, and the thrill of a new destination. Dorothy's creative talents were endless; she accomplished so much in the arts and crafts world—painting, drawing, stained glass, origami, knitting, crocheting—the list goes on. Dorothy's passion was quilt making; even up to her final days, if she heard of a new quilt shop, it was a must to check out. After hours of "oohing & aahing," she left with a new quilt project in hand. Dorothy's legacy as a quilter extends far beyond her quilts—her warm heart and generous spirit led her to share her talents, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Shannon & (Gary) Pittser of Meacham, Craig Evans of Pendleton, Bradley & (Michelle) Evans of Richland; twelve grandkids, twenty-four great-grandkids, nine great-great-grandkids; brother & his spouse, Arthur & (Barbara) Bradley of Otter Rock; and many loving nieces & nephews.
Beside her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by siblings Anita Bradley, Merle Bradley, Erma Hammons, Donald Bradley, and Lois Moore; step-grandson Michael Costner; daughter-in-law Terrie Evans; and great-great-grandson Clyde Alexander (January 2025).
Dorothy passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, December 23, 2024, in La Grande, at the age of 89. We will miss her hugs, big smile, and the twinkle in her eyes that always showed her joy and love.
Contributions in her & her pets' memory may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Association, 3212 Hwy 30, La Grande, OR 97850.
