Doris Bridges Winter Obituary

Pendleton, Oregon - Doris Bridges Winter, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2026, of natural causes.

The celebration of life service will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 10:00 am at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Olney Cemetery.

Doris was born on July 3, 1935 in Elgin, Oregon to Lester and Marion Fox, where she grew up on a 320 acre ranch. She graduated from Elgin High School and was the valedictorian of her class. Doris then went on to graduate from Eastern Oregon State

College with a degree in secondary education with a double major in health and physical education. During college, she married Ron Bridges after he returned from the

Korean war as an army officer.

Upon college graduation, Ron and Doris moved to Pendleton where they both started their careers. Ron was hired by the state as a game warden, and Doris as a health and physical education teacher. Doris had a love for teaching, and in 1987 she was picked for the Advancement of Health Award from among junior high health teachers throughout the state, and was honored at a banquet in Seaside.

Doris' other professional accomplishments include, developing a Alcohol and Drug Program for Eastern Oregon Alcohol Foundation, awarded recognition from the

American Lung Association, nominated for the Governor's award and established a gymnastics program for junior high students. She coached several sports and had a love for coaching track and field.

Doris is survived by her children, Michael Bridges and Lorie Ritzdorf; five grandchildren,

Matthew, Nathan, Eric, Jamie and Jenna, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ron Bridges; her second husband, Fred Winter;

and her sister, Betty Hastings.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Pendleton Linebackers Club, as an endowment fund is going to be established in the name of Doris Bridges for an annual scholarship for a deserving female track and field athlete.
